Christie Spronk BA, MSW, RSW
Founder & Therapist

With almost 30 years of experience in the mental health and addiction field, I am passionate about supporting individuals through the challenges, transitions, and experiences that life can bring. I believe that meaningful therapy begins with a strong therapeutic relationship built on trust, compassion, respect, and a sense of safety. My goal is to create a space where you feel heard, understood, and supported as you work toward the changes that are important to you.
I am a Registered Social Worker with Criminology and Social Work Diplomas, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology, and a Master of Social Work with a Specialization in Clinical Social Work Practice. I have been registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers since 2006 and remain in good standing. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with both youth and adults in inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as in frontline and leadership roles. While my career has provided me with a broad range of experiences, I have always found my way back to what I value most—working directly with people.
I currently work full-time supporting members of the RCMP and Canadian Armed Forces and have also been operating my part-time private practice since 2023. I am grateful to be part of the Riverwest Therapy Collective, where I see clients in person.
I enjoy working with adults experiencing a broad range of concerns, including addiction, anxiety, grief, stress, relationship concerns, life transitions, anger, trauma, and PTSD. My approach to therapy is integrative, collaborative, trauma-informed, and person-centered. I draw from a variety of therapeutic tools, techniques, and approaches, tailoring my work to meet each individual where they are.
My approach centers on connection. I believe the therapeutic relationship is at the heart of effective therapy and that healing can happen when individuals feel truly seen, heard, acknowledged, and valued. I strive to create a supportive, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where clients feel safe to explore their experiences, build on their strengths, and work toward meaningful change.
I believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. My role is to work collaboratively with you, respecting your unique experiences, needs, strengths, and goals. I am committed to creating a welcoming and supportive space for people of all genders, sexual orientations, gender identities, abilities, cultures, and backgrounds.
Outside of my professional life, I have been married for 20 years and am a mom to two teenage daughters and a mini Goldendoodle. Much of our time is spent with friends and family, and I especially enjoy watching my daughters play volleyball. When I'm not working, you can often find me reading, practicing hot yoga, listening to podcasts, sitting around a campfire, or enjoying a good craft project.
I feel incredibly fortunate to do work that I find both meaningful and rewarding. If you're considering therapy, I encourage you to schedule a complimentary 15-minute consultation. This is an opportunity for us to connect, see if we might be a good fit, and answer any questions you may have about the therapy process. I would be honoured to meet you and learn more about how I can support you.

Evidence-based trauma therapy encompasses therapeutic approaches that have been scientifically validated and shown to be effective in treating trauma-related conditions. These therapies are backed by rigorous research & clinical trials, ensuring their efficacy & safety.
Here are a few that I use:
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
CPT helps individuals process & reframe negative thoughts by challenging unhelpful beliefs & developing balanced perspectives, CPT aids in reducing PTSD symptoms & improving emotional well-being.
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
ART is a brief, innovative therapy that integrates techniques from CBT & EMDR. It focuses on reprogramming the way distressing memories are stored in the brain, helping to reduce emotional & physical reactions. ART often provides significant relief in just a few sessions.
Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE)
PE is designed to help individuals confront & process traumatic memories & situations they have been avoiding. It involves repeated, detailed imagining of the trauma & gradual exposure to trauma reminders. This process helps reduce fear & anxiety, leading to improved functioning & quality of life.
These therapies provide individuals with the tools to manage and overcome trauma-related symptoms, facilitating healing and recovery.
CPT and PE are offered virtually or in-person. ART sessions are in-person only.
